Help with Cera

Wax weight or total weight

The basis determines which weight the fragrance percentage applies to. A batch of 24 candles at 180 g each weighs 4,320 g in total.

  • 8% by wax weight: 4,000 g of wax + 320 g of fragrance. Fragrance is 8% of the wax weight.
  • 8% by total weight: 3,974.4 g of wax + 345.6 g of fragrance. Fragrance is 8% of the combined weight.

Use the basis specified in your formula.

Enter the fill weight, without the container

Enter the combined wax and fragrance weight for one finished candle, without the jar or accessories. A container's capacity in fluid ounces or milliliters isn't the weight of the candle mixture.

Use a recipe for a different batch size

Open Recipes, choose a formula, and tap Use recipe. Enter the new number of candles. This calculation doesn't change your saved recipe unless you explicitly update it.

Remember your materials

Open Materials & notes when saving, or tap Edit recipe on a saved recipe. Wax, fragrance, wick, container, and notes are optional. They are included in your backups.

One purchase, the whole app

Cera costs US$9.99 to download from the US App Store. The calculator, unlimited recipes, all ten collection guides, and batch tools are included. There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases.

Plan with the wax you have

Calculate your formula, then choose Plan with available wax on the batch screen. Enter wax only, in grams or ounces. Cera finds the largest whole-candle batch and shows fragrance needed and wax left over. Use this batch updates the quantity; your saved formula stays unchanged. The estimate doesn't include pouring losses.

Weigh and share a batch

Tap each ingredient on the batch screen after weighing it. Tap again to undo. The marks belong to that result and reset for a new calculation; they aren't a saved production record. Share batch opens the iPhone share sheet with quantities, percentage basis, and any saved materials and notes. You choose the destination.

Try something from the collection

Open Recipes → Explore 10 recipes. Filter by level and read the materials, method, and source. Recipes with complete ingredient weights offer Save formula to my recipes. Projects measured in drops, sheets, or dipping stock stay as guides.

Restore a deleted recipe

Go to Recipes → Recipe options → Deleted recipes and choose Restore recipe. Deleted recipes are kept so you can recover them.

Save a backup

Go to Recipes → Recipe options → Recipe backup and export the file. Save it outside Cera's folder so you can keep it if you delete the app. It includes active recipes and recoverable deleted recipes, but not the current calculation.

Import without replacing existing recipes

Choose Import backup and review the preview. Confirming adds copies with new identifiers. Duplicate names are labeled as imported. Canceling the preview leaves your data unchanged.

Cera opens backup versions 1 and 2 and exports version 2, which includes materials and notes. Older versions of the app cannot open these new backups. The file must be a valid Cera JSON backup, no larger than 5 MB and containing no more than 5,000 recipes. If it fails, keep the original and email us the error message. You don't need to send the entire file.

If Cera can't open your recipes

Choose Try again. Don't delete the app to fix a loading problem, as this could erase your local data. Contact us first with the message you see.

If a result looks wrong

Check the unit and percentage basis. Cera displays grams in 0.1 g increments and ounces in 0.01 oz increments. The ≈ symbol indicates rounding. Send us the values you entered and the result you expected so we can check the calculation.
